How to Read the Prayer Times Table
The Prayer Times website displays daily and monthly tables for the five daily prayers. This guide explains the table elements and how to read them correctly.
Daily Table (Prayer Times Card)
On each city page, a prayer times card for the current day shows:
- City and country name at the top.
- Gregorian and Hijri date for the current day.
- Five prayer times in order: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha.
- Sunrise time (informational, not a prayer).
- Next prayer highlighted with a countdown timer.
- Day/night indicator showing whether it's currently day or night.
Monthly Table
The monthly table is accessible from the city page and displays a full month of prayer times with:
- Table header: Gregorian/Hijri month name, city, and country.
- Columns: Day (Gregorian/Hijri), Fajr, Sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha.
- Each row represents one day.
- Current day marked with "aria-current="date"" and distinct styling.
- Toggle between week-only or full-month view.
- Export buttons (CSV) available to download the table.
Time Format
All times are displayed in 24-hour format (e.g., 05:30, 17:45) in the city's local time, accounting for DST where applicable. Numbers inside tables are wrapped in <bdi> with correct direction for proper display in both RTL and LTR languages.
Hijri Date
The Hijri date is calculated using the Umm al-Qura calendar. It may differ by one day from some local calendars because crescent sighting criteria vary. The Hijri date appears alongside the Gregorian date in the daily card and monthly table header.
Next Prayer and Countdown
The next prayer is determined automatically based on the device's current time (corrected for time zone). A countdown shows the remaining time. When prayer time enters, the indicator switches to the next prayer. The countdown works without JavaScript for pre-rendered pages and updates dynamically when JavaScript is enabled.
Time Zone and Daylight Saving
Prayer times are calculated for the city's IANA time zone. Daylight saving changes follow the available time zone data.
Prayer Time Comparison (Optional)
On the city page, you can enable comparison with another city or a different calculation methodology. This helps understand differences between methodologies or between nearby cities.
Practical Tips
- Add your city page to favorites for quick access (star button in header).
- Use the "Use My Location" button to automatically find the nearest published city.
- To print a monthly table, use the export (CSV) button then print from a spreadsheet app.
- Times are precise astronomical calculations - verify with your local mosque for practical confirmation.
- During Ramadan, a dedicated Imsakiyah page is available with Suhoor and Iftar times.
